World RX stars lap up the sights in Hong Kong

The stars of the FIA World Rallycross Championship have spent the past two days soaking up the sights of Hong Kong and sampling the city’s sweet and savoury delicacies – some of which they made themselves as they put their culinary creativity to the test.

Hansen World RX Team trio Timmy Hansen, Kevin Hansen and Patrick O’Donovan, CE Dealer Team by Volvo Construction Equipment duo Klara Andersson and Niclas Grönholm, Volkswagen Dealerteam BAUHAUS rookie Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky and Cape Town winner Timo Scheider (ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport) all took advantage of World RX’s maiden visit to the Asia-Pacific region to indulge in a spot of sightseeing.

Tourist mode engaged, the drivers visited various iconic viewpoints, beginning with the Avenue of Stars and its clock tower on the southern shore of the historic Kowloon district. Traditions were honoured with a tram ride through the streets of Hong Kong’s financial quarter and an evening cruise aboard a Chinese junk boat in Victoria Harbour, as the city’s iconic skyscrapers sparkled in the fading light.

After tasting barbecue pork (char siu) and goose as well as delicious dim sums such as shumai and har gow, the rallycross racers headed to Alice Baking Studio to see what they could rustle up.

Following a lesson in how to produce the perfect Hong Kong egg tart – a staple of the city’s renowned food scene – they were then tasked with doing so themselves, with O’Donovan judged to be the crème de la crème when it comes to kitchen skills.

Rather than peaking too soon, the drivers then finished their sightseeing with a trip to ‘The Peak’ to enjoy one of the most famous views in Hong Kong – as the city revealed its full splendour to a very appreciative audience.
